School-Based Mental Health Elementary & Middle School Consortium

Mission

Through collaboration and partnerships, the consortium will recruit and retain school-based counselors to increase access to mental health services for K-8 Imperial County students.

The Goals of the Consortium

  • Implement a countywide, systemic approach to increase access to high quality mental health services to equip schools to recognize and respond to student mental health needs.
  • Lower ratios of service providers to ensure easy access to quality mental health services on campus.
  • Build a strong communication structure to foster meaningful communication between agencies to allow for a seamless referral process for students and families.
  • Hire 18 new, CA credentialed school-based counselors to be placed in Imperial County K-8 LEAs with demonstrated need to provide equitable access to mental health services to all our Imperial County K-8 students
  • Implement recruitment strategies in collaboration with Regional IHE’s, our local High School Mental Health Consortium, local mental health organizations, and all Imperial County K-8 districts
  • Implement retention strategies through the development and implementation of New Counselor Induction Program, the hiring of a Pupil Personnel Services Induction Coordinator, and competitive salaries
  • The county-wide implementation of the American School Counselor Association’s National Model to increase school counselor effectiveness
