Welcome to Imperial County Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA),
SELPA is the "umbrella" entity for the provision of special education programs and services for all identified children ages birth through 22 years of age.
The SELPA is comprised by the seventeen Local Education Agencies (LEA's) or districts to include the Imperial County Office of Education (ICOE). The local plan is approved by each LEA, the California Department of Education, Special Education Division, and the State Board of Education.
What is SELPA?
In 1977, all California school district and county school offices were required to join to form geographical regions of sufficient size and scope to provide all the federal mandated special education programs and services to meet the unique needs of identified children residing within the region's developed and maintains a local plan describing how the SELPA would guarantee and provide special education programs and services.
The Imperial County SELPA is dedicated to the belief that all students can learn and that special needs students must be guaranteed equal opportunity to become contributing members of society. To that end, the SELPA facilitates high quality educational programs and services for students with disabilities, and training for parents and educators. The SELPA collaborates with county agencies and school districts to develop and maintain healthy and enriching environments in which students with disabilities and their families can live and succeed.
