  • Navy Veteran Finds Calling Working with Students with Special Needs
    As a skinny 21-year-old in 1977, ICOE’s Roy Aguilera enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served our country for the next four years. Serving as Radio Man at the height of the cold war, Roy was tasked with keeping communications flowing between ships and bases over the vast Pacific Ocean. Roy had requested to be stationed in Hawaii, but was sent to Adak, Alaska for 2 years. He did, however, get his island wish and spent his last two years of duty in Guam.

  • Red Ribbon Week and Enrique Kiki Camarena
    Enrique (Kiki) S. Camarena was born on July 26, 1947 in Mexicali, Mexico. He graduated from Calexico High School in Calexico, California in 1966, and in 1968 he joined the U.S. Marine Corps.

    Calexico – An ROP class in child care her senior year of high school was all it took for Lisa Bracamonte to discover her life-long career. Caring for young children and working in preschools has been Lisa’s only job – and she loves it.  

  • 17th Regional Migrant Parents Conf.
    The 17th Annual Regional Migrant Parent Conference was a resounding this success! Held October 7th, 2017 at Imperial Valley College, the event provided Migrant Parents and their children with workshops focusing on health, driver safety, attending college, and Mexican Consulate Services and resources. The day ended with an inspiring keynote given by Author/Singer/Songwriter, Joe Zuniga. For pictures of the event click here.

  • County Test Scores Released
    On Wednesday, September 27, 2017 the California Department of Education released the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress scores to the public.

  • Higher Education Week 2017
    Twenty-eight institutions visited 11 schools to speak with almost 3400 Imperial County students as part of Higher Education Week! From September 18th to September 21st, students were able to speak with recruiters from higher education institutions and discuss degrees, programs, housing, financial aid, and to answer whatever questions or concerns a student may have. Students & Parents Night gave parents of higher education bound students the opportunity to meet recruiters and discuss the goals of their children.

  • Project PRIME Celebration
    Julie Adams was the keynote speaker on Tuesday, September 19th, for the Project PRIME Celebration dinner event. The two year Project PRIME program, focusing on preparing students for the 21st century and supporting teachers through a PD model made to increase students' mathematical ability, officially came to a successful end.     The ICOE College and Career Readiness Initiative is pleased to present the Imperial County Higher Education Week (HEW) K-12 Activities Manual for Elementary, Middle and High Schools. To promote the importance of preparation for college and career at all grade levels, a series of events and activities have been created to implement at your school sites during Higher Ed. Week, September 18-22, 2017.
