- September 8, 2017 Brawley – With over 40 visually impaired students county-wide, the team of six Special Education staff stay busy. The Visually Impaired (VI) hub at ICOE’s Del Rio Campus on the east side of Brawley is also home to Special Ed. teacher, Guadalupe (Lupe) Gonzalez, who just recently finished her Education Specialist Credential for the Visually Impaired.
- Former Imperial County Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Herb Farrar passed away on July 26, 2017 from complications associated with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. "Dr. Farrar was not only a great leader", said County Superintendent Dr. Todd Finnell, "but he was an extraordinary man that I've been blessed to have as a mentor, coach, and friend."
- The 2017 school year for ICOE was kicked off with the annual all-hands Welcome Back Event! The 500+ employees attended a morning of fun events, entertainment, and inspiring messages to recharge and motivate the crowd. Armed with a focus on ICOE Values, everyone left ready to support Imperial County Schools in the upcoming school year. Be sure to check out the pictures from this event and have a great school year! - El Centro - The Foundation for Education, ICOE's non-profit auxiliary organization, recently received a donation of $25,000 from AT&T. The donation was a result of AT&T's interest in partnering with innovative programs to assist educational programs targeting students who come from disadvantaged backgrounds such as English learners and the economically disadvantaged. All of the funds will go to support Career and Technical Education programs at ICOE's Alternative Education program in Imperial County.
- Imperial County – Based upon Imperial County’s student enrollment of 37,000 for grades Kinder through 12th grade the Imperial County Office of Education can nominate one local teacher to the California Department of Education to be considered for the California Teacher of the Year Program.
