  • Imperial County – Junior high science teacher from the El Centro Elementary School District, Jason Sanchez, has been selected as the Imperial County Teacher of the Year. Having started his teaching career in Winterhaven at San Pasqual Valley Unified School District over 20 years ago, Mr. Sanchez has taught a variety of subjects including English language arts, math, and science. Currently he is an 8th grade science teacher at John F. Kennedy Middle School in El Centro in the El Centro Elementary School District.

  • Orchestra Camp offers youth introduction to stringed instruments The Southwest High School Orchestra conducted a five day summer orchestra camp for both beginner and advanced students at Southwest High School. The camp was from 12 Noon to 4:00 p.m.,  July 24 through July 28.

  • ICOE’s Foundation for Education Awards Over $18,000 in Scholarships to Local Students El Centro, CA – The Foundation for Education, an auxiliary organization of the Imperial County Office of Education (ICOE), is pleased to announce that it awarded $18,350 in scholarships to 31 students in 2023. Each year, the Foundation for Education scholarship program helps increase college access and success for some of Imperial County’s most vulnerable students, including at-risk youth and students with special needs.
