    Today, a ribbon cutting for ICOE's Early Care and Education Program Day Care Center, at 1840 Rockwood Avenue in Calexico, was held. This particular center is a joint effort with ICOE and the Housing Authority of the City of Calexico and will be located at one of the Housing Authorities properties. It is expected to serve up to 38 children and will likely employ 4 people as pre-school teachers and aides. ICOE operates 20 early care and education centers throughout Imperial County with a county-wide enrollment of 654 children.

    Brawley educator wins national award By WILLIAM ROLLER, Staff Writer Posted on Aug 18, 2016 by William Roller BRAWLEY — Jose Flores, civics and U.S. history teacher at Brawley Union High School, was honored by the Environmental Protection Agency and the White House Council on Environmental Quality with a 2015-2016 Presidential Innovation Award for Environmental Educators.

    Education Matters J. Todd Finnell, Ed.D.County Superintendent of Schools It’s back-to-school time in Imperial County! The opening days of school conjure up images of backpacks stuffed with notebooks and unsharpened pencils, bulletin boards freshly decorated by teachers, and students showing off their new clothes to old friends. It’s a wonderful time of year, which is why I’d like to share some information on a variety of topics affecting our schools and community in 2016-17.

    Teaching’s best practices took another leap forward during Imperial County Office of Education’s weeklong training session for elementary and secondary teachers this week at Imperial Valley College. This was year two in the launch of Precision and Rigor in Mathematics Education, which is part of a three-year grant under California Math, Science Partnership, which is administered by the California Department of Education, noted Todd Evangelist, ICOE director of development and community relations.
