Red Ribbon Campaign

Red Ribbon Week is October 23-31, 2025! Red Ribbon Week is the nation’s oldest and largest campaign designed to promote drug prevention awareness in an effort to support a substance-free lifestyle in schools and communities. The campaign reaches millions of young people and adults across the country.

History: Red Ribbon Week started after the death of Drug Enforcement Administration Special Agent, Enrique “Kiki” Camarena, who in 1985 was brutally murdered by drug traffickers he was investigating in Mexico. After his death, people wanted to honor his sacrifice. Local celebrations began in Calexico, California (where Mr. Camarena grew up) in 1985, and in 1988 the National Family Partnership started the first National Red Ribbon Week.

The Red Ribbon Week Campaign provides teachers and school staff with opportunities to demonstrate a commitment to safe and drug-free schools. This year’s national theme is “Life is a Puzzle, Solve it Drug Free.” ™️ The 2025 official theme logo is found below. All Imperial County schools are encouraged to participate in this year’s campaign and celebration by providing students with meaningful opportunities to take a stand in the fight against alcohol, tobacco, e-cigarettes, vaping, and other drug use.

The Imperial County Office of Education is pleased to announce our Annual Red Ribbon Poster Contest. The theme this year is Life is a Puzzle, Solve it Drug Free.” ™️ All schools are strongly encouraged to participate to provide students with opportunities to take a stand in the fight against alcohol, tobacco, e-cigarettes, vaping, and other drug use.
