El Centro, CA – The Foundation for Education, an auxiliary organization of Imperial County Office of Education (ICOE), is pleased to announce that it has awarded twenty (20) scholarships to Imperial County students who are attending a community college or university in the fall. Thanks to the overwhelming support of our community, the Foundation for Education was able to double the number of scholarships it awarded this year.

Launched in 2020, the goal of this scholarship program is to increase college access and success for some of Imperial County’s most vulnerable students, including at-risk youth and students with special needs. This year, the Foundation for Education selected 20 outstanding students to receive a $500 scholarship. Students to receive this scholarship award include graduates from Calexico High School, Desert Oasis High School, Valley Academy, and Imperial Pathways Charter School. Each of these scholarships will help students cover payment of tuition, academic fees, or the purchase of educational materials, books, or equipment.

“Our scholarship recipients have overcome challenges that most people will never encounter in a lifetime,” said Dr. Todd Finnell, Imperial County Superintendent of Schools, and President of the Foundation for Education. “Their resilience in this regard is inspiring, and we wish each of them the very best as they pursue their post-secondary education and future careers.”

This year’s scholarship recipients will be recognized during the Imperial County Office of Education Board Meeting on June 13, 2022, at 5:30 pm (ICOE Building C - FLC, 1398 Sperber Rd, El Centro). Additionally, the recipients will be celebrated at the Foundation for Education’s second Annual Autumn & the Arts Fundraiser on October 6, 2022. Proceeds from the fundraiser will be used to support the Foundation’s Scholarship Program and other initiatives.
