California Preschool Instructional Network

The California Preschool Instructional Network (CPIN) was initiated during the 2003-2004 school year by the California Department of Education (CDE).

The CPIN is organized by the 11 regions designated by the California County Superintendents Educational Services Association (CCSESA). There is a regional lead and English learner lead stationed in each of the eleven regions throughout the state.

The CPIN leads provide professional development opportunities via the California Curriculum Framework and Learning Foundations and support for early childhood/school readiness staffs and Transitional Kindergarten teachers and administrators.

Professional development topics include:

  • Social emotional development
  • Early language and literacy development
  • STEM for young children
  • Developmentally appropriate practices
  • Strategies and modifications for children with disabilities
  • Dual language learners

The CPIN is one of many efforts that is focused on the goal of helping all young children in California develop into eager, healthy and prepared learners who can flourish and succeed in elementary school and beyond.
