Imperial Valley Students in National Rocket Finals

Here is some good news for you!

Our team of students from Desert Valley High School entered a nationwide rocketry contest in October of 2008. Out of almost 800 teams around the nation the top 100 teams were invited to the national finals in Virginia, in May. The contest is sponsored by the Aerospace Industries Association, NASA, the Defense Department and the National Association of Rocketry.

Our team’s score was one of the best in the nation- in the top 10! So now, we are making plans to win the national contest in Virginia on May 16th! The challenge is to design and build a rocket that will carry a raw egg to an altitude of 750 feet and return the egg unharmed. The goal also is to have a total flight time of 45 seconds.

Along with the honor of being the best in the nation, there are great cash prizes and scholarships for the top three teams. Our team is now trying to raise the funds necessary to make the trip to Virginia.

We need to raise approximately $5000.00 to pay for the airfare, meals, lodging, etc. Will you help us? We would love to put your name on the rocket as one of our team’s supporters! Any donations will be tax deductible. Checks should be made out to Desert Valley High School.

Mail checks to:

DVHS,
480 N. Imperial Ave,
Brawley, CA 92227

The team members are: Johnny Domnigues, Raul Partida, Mark Ramirez

Also, if you have any contacts such as clubs or individuals who may be interested, please pass this ... on to them! Thank you so much for your help in making our trip a reality. We are very excited to be able to participate in this challenging adventure!
