What is subsidized child care?

Subsidized child care is assistance for low-income families to cover part or all of their child care cost, depending on their financial need.

How do I know if I am eligible for subsidized child care?

When your application is submitted; the agency can determine what programs you are eligible for based upon the information you provided.  At the time you are contacted for child care services, an appointment will be set up with the enrolling agency or center, so you can verify your information, documentation will be required prior to enrollment in a child care program.  You will be required to bring verifying documentation such as birth certificates, current pay stubs, immunization records or utility bill.

What are the general requirements for services?

To receive subsidized child care and development services, families shall meet eligibility and need criteria. In addition child's parent(s) must live and/or work in the State of California. To qualify for Preschool services you do not have to have a need for child care services.

What is the age limit for eligible children?

Children who have reached their thirteenth (13th) birthday are no longer eligible for subsidized services except those children that have an exceptional need or are severely disabled in this particular situations children may be served up to age twenty-one(21).

How long is the wait?

The wait varies. Unfortunately it is not possible for us to give you an approximate time. When funding becomes available or when there is an opening in a subsidized child care program. Agencies will start calling the most eligible families until the funding runs out or the space becomes filled.

What if my information changes?

Anytime after you submitted an application, you can call any participating agency to update your information.    Changes to be reported immediately are: Address, phone number, family size, and income.  * To remain in active status, families must update their information once every six (6) months.
