History-Social Science Competition 2011

Overview

The History-Social Science Competition is a team competition where students match intellects with other students from other schools.  Students are tested on California State Standards for seventh and eighth grade students in areas such as geography, government, historical facts, and other significant events and individuals in history.  Please note that general World History questions from both sixth and seventh grade standards may be asked for the seventh grade competition.

The 2011 Competition will be held on Thursday, March 31, 2011 from 1:30 pm to 4:00 pm at the Kennedy Middle School Gym.  Schools who wish to compete must register their teams using OMS (http://icoe.k12oms.org/1156-42733) on the web. The due date to register, pay fees, and turn in release forms is Friday, February 25, 2011.

Competition Details

The seventh grade competition focuses on World History while the eighth grade competition focuses on United States History.  Teams will compete against other students at their grade level.  The competitions at each grade level will be complete within one (1) hour.

The competition is open to the public and parents are encouraged to attend.  Doors for the public open promptly at 1:30 pm.

Individual Competition

There is no individual competition.  The competition is a team effort.

Team Competition

In teams of 4, students will have a limited amount of time to answer orally stated questions administered by a Quiz Master and presented on large screens.  Questions will be read twice then students will have twenty seconds to submit their response to the monitor via student response systems.  Students will be awarded points based on correct responses.

Awards

First, second, and third place teams will be awarded individual medals.  Winning coaches will receive a plaque to be displayed at their respective school site.  All participating team members will receive t-shirts and certificates.
