Deciding what career to pursue in life can be a daunting task, especially at a young age.

But with the Imperial County Office of Education’s job-shadowing program, more than 300 students from across the Valley on Wednesday experienced what a day in their chosen career would be like.

From teachers to forensics investigators to morticians, more than 50 local businesses and organizations opened their doors to students to let them take a glimpse at their profession.

The annual job-shadowing event drew students from 13 school sites ranging from grades seven through 12.

Students spend a day in the field of their choice, and the experience could help them decide on what they want to do later on in life.

The Imperial Valley Press went out and asked some of the job shadowers why they chose that field and what they learned from their experience.
