“We’re providing information on all four levels of higher education,” Ramos said. “We include trade schools and vocational schools as part of higher education.”
Thanks to recent focuses on technical trade at the Imperial Valley College and a pact between Imperial Valley College and San Diego State University-Imperial Valley campus to get local students through college in four years with no hassle, local teens have better opportunities here in the Valley than ever — opportunities that will help them with their careers.
“The job market today is demanding a higher level of skill and intellect,” Ramos said. “Preparing our kids in a college prep curriculum affords them more opportunities to compete, whether that be work, college, military, whatever that may be.”
By encouraging youngsters to attend college — whether it is an academic setting such as the California State University or a vocational path — Ramos said he hopes they’ll learn lifelong lessons and become an integral part of the community. “We push education locally to formalize leadership within our current students and youth,” Ramos said. “We just want to make sure that it’s the student’s choice to attend whatever level he or she wants.”
