Imperial Valley Expo in partnership with the Imperial County Office of Education is sponsoring a poster contest highlighting the theme of the 98th California Mid-Winter Fair & Fiesta from March 3-12.

All schools and students throughout the Valley have been invited to participate in the contest, based on this year’s fair theme of “What’s Growin’ On.”

“This is an exciting addition to our fair this year, and we appreciate the county Office of Education’s participation in this contest,” said Charles Borchard, chief executive officer of the I.V. Expo. “It’s part of our effort to continue making our fair the premier family event in our valley.”

Posters must be submitted on 12-inch by 18-inch white construction paper using any medium. All entries from schools must be received by the Imperial County Office of Education’s Student Well-Being and Family Resources office by Jan. 31.

“The sky’s the limit on color and media use,” Borchard said, “but designs should all be original work of the student.”

Students should not use copyrighted characters, photographs or magazine or newspaper illustrations as part of the design.

A first-, second- and third-place award will be selected for each grade level, kindergarten through 12th grade. Division winners will be selected from groupings of kindergarten to second grade; third through sixth grades; seventh through ninth grades and 10th through 12th grades.

One overall winner will be selected for a grand prize.

Grade-level winners will receive a free pass to this year’s fair on a day of their choosing. Division winners will receive a wrist band for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of fair week.

The grand-prize winner will receive a free pass plus two adult passes and a child’s pass to all 10 days of the fair in addition to a wristband good for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of fair week.

A complete set of the rules has been posted on the Imperial Valley Expo Web site at www.ivexpo.com.
